Job Description and Duties

Under the direction of the Staff Services Manager I and guided by business analysts, the Student Assistant is a vital support role within the Information Technology Liaison Bureau and provides support to the daily operations through data analysis, insight generation, and administrative assistance within the Information Technology Liaison Bureau (ITLB). The Student Assistant documents changes in data systems and participates in small-scale entry-level projects to enhance data system functionality. The Student Assistant provides assistance in the design, implementation, and assessment surveys with advanced tools, contributing significantly to data-driven decision-making processes.

The Student Assistant aids in the development, implementation, and management of programs to support CCLDs strategies related to potential future data systems as well as learns about and follows the organizational policies, procedures, and guidelines used for CCLD.

The Student Assistant may generate project-related documentation and reports utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Project, Excel, Outlook, Visio, SharePoint), focusing on Excel spreadsheets with macros, pivot tables, and graphs for detailed project tracking. And the student assistant may facilitate the development and maintenance of SharePoint sites for project collaboration, as well as provide first-level support to end-users.

The Student Assistant can assist in troubleshooting problems, guiding users through corrective steps, and escalating issues when necessary and the student assistant may also review and update CCLD system documentations submitted by CCLD managers.

The Student Assistant acts as a versatile team player, ready to support other ITLB sections and engage in cross-functional projects.

Working Conditions

This position is headquartered in Sacramento and may be eligible for a hybrid Telework schedule for eligible applicants residing in California. A hybrid Telework schedule includes working remotely and physically reporting to the office.

• In Office refers to all working days.

• Hybrid refers to some working days in office and other days Telework eligible.

• Telework refers to all working days at approved alternate work location.

This work location is very convenient!  The CDSS is located two blocks from the light rail and public transportation: within walking distance to the State Capitol, parks, restaurants, farmer’s markets and the Golden 1 Arena. Our building has easy access to I-5, Highway 50, and Highway 80.

This position is eligible for hybrid work  in accordance with the Governor’s and at the sole discretion of the Department of Social Services under California Government Code Section 14200. All telework schedules are subject to change and may be re-evaluated at any time.  The incumbent will  be expected to report for in office work and attend work related in-person events as deemed operationally necessary. Telework does not change the terms and conditions of employment, the essential functions of job duties, or required compliance with the CDSS policies. Headquarter location may be designated on the selected candidate's primary residence location, and/or the closest CDSS location in accordance with operational need and available space. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.
