Sr. COBOL/Unisys Developer
Location: New Carrollton, MD (Remote)

Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Sr. COBOL/Unisys Developer to support our IRS client in New Carrollton, MD. The developer will be responsible for creating, maintaining, and enhancing COBOL programs and working with IMS-DB, DB2, and related tools in a mainframe environment. This position requires strong expertise in ECL, JCL, COBOL, and SQL, along with the ability to work closely with government personnel and team members in a collaborative setting.
Responsibilities
The Sr. COBOL/Unisys Developer will:
Develop, update, unit test, and maintain COBOL programs.
Update documentation including Functional Specification Packages (FSPs), Program Requirements Packages (PRPs), Visio diagrams, and spreadsheets.
Track requirements, create, and execute unit test cases.
Review, analyze, and contribute to documentation such as Unified Work Requests (UWR), Internal Revenue Manuals (IRM), Interface Control Documents (ICD), and Computer Operator Handbooks (COH).
Redesign or rewrite programs based on workflow charts, diagrams, and business requirements.
Revise, repair, or expand existing programs to improve efficiency or adapt to new requirements.
Collaborate with managerial, engineering, and technical staff to clarify program intent, identify issues, and recommend changes.
Perform systems analysis and programming tasks to ensure effective use of computer systems.
Compile and document program development, revisions, and coding instructions for team understanding.
Prepare workflow charts and diagrams to define input, output, and system logic.
Collaborate with testers to support development, SAT, and FIT environments.
Qualifications Required
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
Active IRS MBI clearance and IRS-issued laptop (laptop will be provided)
Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience.
At least 4 years of IBM COBOL programming experience.
At least 1 year of direct IRS experience in a similar role.
Proficiency with DB2 and IBM DB2 utilities.
Experience with CICS and batch processing.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Proven success in client support and ability to work with all levels of management.
Strong organizational, time management, and independent working skills.
Preferred
Experience with IRS processing systems.
Familiarity with SQL, JCL, and Unisys batch processing.
